I am a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist and my NHS practice is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children where I am director of the inpatient services. I am in charge of the cardiology ward and high dependency unit. I also provide outpatient consultations for children referred with heart murmurs, cardiac defects/holes, palpitations, chest pain, inherited cardiac conditions, and those who are born with only one cardiac pumping chamber (single ventricles).

I graduated from Bologna University Medical School in 1999 and I started my paediatric Cardiology training in the same year. I spent the last year of my clinical training at the University of California at San Francisco. I obtained his cardiology CCST in 2004 and I have been working as a consultant paediatric cardiologist since. I joined the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2007.

Research

I believe that research is the only way to improve outcomes and improve quality of life in children with cardiac defects. For this reason I have ben involved since the beginning of my training in basic and clinical research. I have published more than 100 research articles in peer reviewed journals and I serve as a reviewer for journals like the New England Journal of Medicine and Circulation.

Quality improvement

Standardization is key to introducing improvements in health care. I undertook in 2011 the prestigious Advanced Training Program at the Institute orf Health Care Delivery Research, Salt Lake City, Utah and I am a qualified patient safety officer. I am involved in several quality improvement initiatives at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children
