RESEARCH:

Aug 1998 - Organised a pilot study at Southampton General Hospital along with Paediatric Cardiologists from The Royal Hospital For Sick Children, Glasgow.  The aim of this study was to explore the possible existence of a substrate for ventricular arrhythmias in the cardiac muscle of patients after Mustard / Senning`s operation for TGA, and Tetralogy of Fallot repair by electrophysiological assessment of fractionated intraventricular electrical impulses and quantifying the degree of fractionation to identify possible correlation with increased risk of sudden death from ventricular arrhythmias. The project coordinator was Dr.Richard Saumerez, Head of cardiovascular research at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. I had also obtained ethics committee approval for extending the fractionation study to paediatric patients over 10 years of age with HOCM.
 

June - 1999 – Lead investigator in a study looking at Coagulation abnormalities after palliative surgery for univentricular heart.

Nov 2006 – Principal investigator in a study to assess Safety and efficacy of stem cell implantation in paediatric patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, primary pulmonary hypertension and those with poor ventricular function requiring cardiac surgical palliation.  The route of stem cell implantation was either transcoronary, transpulmonary or direct myocardial injection.

June 2007 – Co investigator in a study aiming for Identification of novel biomarkers using proteomic & transcryptomic approaches for the diagnosis & prognosis of congenital heart disease. It is proposed to analyze the protein expression perturbations of myocardial tissue in patients with congenital heart diseases of different etiologies such as TOF, TGA, pulmonary atresia and Atrial Septal Defect.
