Initiation in to paediatric cardiology was at The Wessex Cardiothoracic Unit, Southampton, U.K. It is a self-contained but multi-focal department and is the regional cardiothoracic centre for the south-west of United Kingdom. It serves a population of 2.8 million and uses the services of four adult cardiologists, four cardiac surgeons, three paediatric cardiologists, two paediatric cardiothoracic surgeons and three cardiac radiologists. Around 300 paediatric cardiac surgeries are performed yearly. The unit is reputed for it`s interventional work. The Electrophysiology laboratory in this unit is one of the leading centres in U.K and has an active programme including AV node & Accessory pathway ablation, Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (AICD) implantations etc. I was supervised by consultant paediatric cardiologists Dr. B.R.Keeton, Dr. A.P.Salmon and Dr. J.P.Gnanapragasam.
